Microsoft is broadening the reach of its Content Integrity tools to bolster support for global elections, campaigns, and news organizations. These tools, developed in partnership with Truepic, secure and authenticate photographs, video, and audio by adding Content Credentials based on the C2PA open specification. These tools will empower organizations to enhance transparency and verify content authenticity and are already being deployed with early partners.

For instance, Simmons Bank customers are now required to snap photos of their driver's licenses and selfies directly through the bank's app instead of using pre-existing images. By 2026, Gartner forecasts that 60% of CMOs will use content authenticity tech, improve monitoring, and endorse user-generated content to protect brands from synthetic media deceit.

Utah's legislature passed SB 131, requiring disclosures for AI-generated content in political advertising, including audio and visual media. This law, part of a broader effort to regulate AI technologies, mandates clear disclosures indicating the use of generative AI in creating content intended to influence voting within the state. The bill, set to take effect on May 1, 2024, imposes a penalty of $1,000 per violation for non-compliance, emphasizing the necessity for creators and sponsors of political ads to adhere to these new regulations.
